MILLS FARM RACE REPORT
8/24/2008

INDIANA CROSS CROUNTRY RACING

We were back at Mills Farm for the make up date from July on the 24th of August and we welcomed the warm sunshine and it looked to be a perfect day for racing.  However dust is always an issue when racing in the summer and this race proved to be no different.  Visibility was very low but the racers pushed thru and put on a good show for all the spectators on hand.

Youth racing returned for this round and the 50cc bikes got out bright and early and enjoyed a little bit of racing action.  Gage Sproles put his KTM out front for the day while Sadie Welch was our runner up.  Next up was the 65 cc and 85 cc bikes.  Ethan Eckstein was our 85 cc winner while Jaden Smith and Charlie Weltch were the top runners in the 65 cc class.  The youth quads were on the line and itching to hit the trails and creeks when we got done with the bikes and we had a huge showing for our mini quads!  Matthew Harris won the Super Mini class while Logan Merriman and Dylan Taylor duked it out in the 90 cc production class.  Cole Setser, Lee Smith, and Travis Pettit is how the 90 cc stock class finished out and Sadie Welch took a little spill but finished  first in the 70 cc class.

Big Bikes were due up next and Marty Michaels came back up from Kentucky to win the Overall.  Jeff Mote continued his winning ways in the A class and Ted Mullins took the B Class.  The B-Lites class got off course for a little while but got back on track and Derrick Allen took his Moto-Xperts Honda to the front of his class with Cayle Booth in tow.  Ken Wolf was our C class winner and PJ Loy won our Vet A class.  Rich Eby and Joe Halcomb both won in the 30+ B and 40+ A class while Matt Yeiter and Bill Boyd pushed the dust to take the top two spots in the 40+ B class.  Our Super Senior 50+ class was won by Michael Gilleran.

After the bike race I actually got my chance to go ride the track and do the sweeper lap and when I got to the top of the hill I think I saw one of the coolest sights I have ever seen.  I look down the hill towards the start to see a field jam packed full of quads and people.  This is something that only a racer would appreciate but man is it cool to see that.  And with a full line on the front row I know we would be in for some good racing action.  Brandon Sommers grabbed the WKC Powersports holeshot money and checked out!  That boy was just getting it that’s all I can even say about him.  Jody Estes shook off some bad luck and took the second podium spot while Josh Beavers took the third place slot.  Cardio Stack rider Ronnie Mills made his return to racing after sustaining an injury earlier this year and just edged out Moto-Xpert rider Jonathan Shaff.  Buzz Deer was victorious in the 16-25 B class followed up by Travis Mader.  Ronnie Terry and Seth Irwin finished 1-2 in the 26+ class as did Tyler Bostock and Justin Kirchhoff in 16-21 C.  My boy Jeff Rawlings switched over to a Honda and won the 22-29 C Class followed by Kevin Blundell and Mark Morefield grabbed the most points in 30+ C.  The Humphery crew was in the house with Jake winning the First Year Racer class a head of Eric Drabaugh.  John East won the sport class and Austin Johnson and Brad Morrison had a great race in the sport lite class.  Our Vet class always offers some great racing action and this time was no different as there seemed to be a different leader every lap but Bruce Marshall finished out front as did Barry Taylor in the Senior class.  Andrew Langston and Travis Marvin both won our utility classes and I just don’t see how those guys can muscle those things around for an hour and a half but they do a heck of a job doing it.

IXCR takes the month of September off as GNCC gets back in full swing.  So we will back for more racing action in October.  We appreciate everyone coming out and racing this weekend especially with the dusty conditions.  We tried a few things to slow people down, some worked and some didn’t.  However this season has offered a little bit of everything with Snow, Mud, dust, and picture perfect conditions.  So who knows what next race will entail……..

Until next time, stay between the trees!
